WE ARE

HERE WITH YOU

Life throws us with challenges at different seasons. At times, it can be hard to cope.

Having someone close to talk to can help, yet this may not be enough. Counselling is a professional therapy service with trained counsellors equipped to help you journey through unique challenges & crisis in life.

Ready to start your journey of growth, healing & breakthrough
but unsure what to expect for the first counselling session?

WHAT TO EXPECT

If you are considering counselling and wondering how your first session will be like, it is normal to feel anxious or apprehensive.  To prepare yourself, it is important to understand what is involved in the counselling process. This will help you know what to expect from your counsellor and yourself. Here are three handles to help you "KNOW" how to prepare yourself for the session.

1.  Know the Goals

Counselling is a process of change driven by therapy goals. The absence of goals in counselling will result in aimless pursuit and exploration leading to multiple sessions, yet arriving at nowhere. It is not uncommon for those who are new to counselling, to not know what they wish to achieve. Therefore, it is important to reflect on a simple question that will help you better identify your goals for therapy during the first session:

"What is the change you like to see in yourself,

in the relationship or in the situation you are facing?"

As a result of this change, what will be the better version you wish to see in yourself? It can mean cultivating a renewed mindset to be more adaptive when handling crisis; it can be learning how to cope better with difficult emotions or mastering skills to increase confidence when handling difficult relationships. Your counsellor will be able to help you identify your change goals over the first few sessions.

2.  Know the Counsellor

In the therapy practice, counsellors may be trained in different counselling modalities and equipped with certain counselling techniques to help you become more aware of the underlying issues that drives the challenges you may be facing in reality. While some may explore more on the impacts from the past, others may choose to focus on helping you build resources and skills in the present. There is no one way to healing & growth.

That is why the more informed approach to finding a suitable counsellor is to take time and go through their profiles. Instead of choosing a counsellor based on their gender or age, it is better to decide based on their counselling approach and speciality. Click below to view the profile of our counsellors.

3.  Know the Process

The process of counselling is confidential and it should take place in a safe, open, non-judgmental and supportive environment. Your counsellor should help you to be more mindful and aware of the issues at hand to find the triggers that has impacted you, then guide you how to learn new ways to better navigate through these challenges. But AWARENESS without ACTION isn't suffice for a deep change. It requires your commitment outside the session, which is why counsellors will give HOMEWORK.

These may be life assignments that may challenge you to reflect and respond differently or new habits and skills to practice and master. For change to happen, it is also dependent on your dedication to take ACTION and follow through with the homework, trying your utmost to unlearn and relearn new responses and master a new way to forge the breakthrough you would like to see. Your counsellor will be the best person to facilitate this process, but they cannot do that on your behalf. You have to:

MARRIAGE COUNSELLING
HOW DOES IT WORK?

While coming for individual counselling takes courage, it often takes more to explore marriage counselling because this can be a vulnerable process for both you and your partner. There are real concerns that may affect you or your partner to be willing to come at the same time for couple therapy. Should both of you decide to come, do you worry whether it can really work to make the relationship better or make the situation worse? Do you know what to expect?

We hear you! That is why we made a in-depth video to address some of these concerns and help you understand what to expect for marriage counselling. We hope this will better guide you to decide whether marriage counselling is suitable for you and your partner.

READY FOR A CHANGE

Are you aware we all have patterns of thoughts, mindset and behaviours that can cause us to respond in a similar way that could go in cycles, leading us to see the same outcome every time?

To change means to break away from these unhelpful patterns. For that to happen, we need deep insights and awareness. If you are ready and willing to see the change in you or with your partner, perhaps it is time to click the button below. We know it takes an extent of personal courage to come for therapy. If you hope for change, trust the process & book an appointment. It will be worth it.
